First edition of the HK Webfest awarded two outstanding local productions and continues with trailblazing transmedia conference.
HONG KONG (05/06/2013) This year’s Hong Kong Webfest announced its first ever “Creativity Award” and “Newcomer Award” at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University earlier this afternoon, after several of the accepted webseries, microfilms and transmedia projects were showcased during the first day of the event.
The “Creativity Award” was presented to local creator Johnee Lau for his satirical cartoon webseries “Galaman”, and the “Newcomer Award” was presented to Kevin Tse, Howard Tian and Esther Tang for their trapped in a toilet comedy – “Lock. Poop. Flush”.
This year’s “Creativity Award” is presented in partnership with the Roma WebFest (the selected project will be showcased at the Rome event in late September), and the “Newcomer Award” was presented in partnership with the LA Webfest, which will also showcase the winner at next year’s festival in Los Angeles.
Both awards where presented by Hong Kong Webfest Director Marco Sparmberg and LA Webfest Executive Director Michael Ajakwe in a ceremony at the PolyU Logo Square.
Tomorrow, on the second day of this three day event, will see panel discussions and project presentations by industry specialists and media professionals like Maryann Hwee (Executive Director of FringeBacker), Charlie Toller (Director of BrandBeatAsia) and Raffi Kamalian (COO of alivenotdead.com).
A highlight of the conference day will be Oonagh Chan’s (Head of Broadcasting Services HK Jockey Club) presentation of the Jockey Club’s Second Screen App, a first for the city of Hong Kong.
The Hong Kong Webfest is an Associated Project of the French May and it focusses on local and international media formats, rising trends in cross-platform storytelling and new finance structures for international co-productions. The festival also is a forum for brands to get in touch with content creators for future transmedia and branded entertainment projects.
